Formed in 1999, the Avoca branch was the one of the first banks to join Bendigo Bank in its Community Banking model. Avoca was followed by Maryborough and an agency in St Arnaud, and Avoca District Co-operative Limited was formed to manage all three sites.

Our mission is to help build strong, connected and vibrant communities in Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud. The Bendigo Bank’s Community Bank model is supports this with a 'profit-with-purpose' philosophy, which means profits are returned directly to the local community that has generated them.

To date, over $1.5m has been returned to our communities. About the Role 

As Branch Manager, you’ll be responsible for implementing our strategic plan and delivering the key objectives for the bank to gain market share for the area.  You will use your business development and sales skills to build long-term connections with customers, local community groups, stakeholders and partners to drive business opportunities for the branches. You’ll build the capacity of our staff and help lead a culture of growth and development that is reflected in our values.


About You

You’ll have:

  • Demonstrated experience in a senior financial management role that has included managing people and culture with proven, well-developed leadership and management skills.
  • An understanding of successful business management strategies including the ability to analyse financial reports, budgets and statements and experience in developing, implementing and managing risk frameworks.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop, coach and manage staff performance.
  • A proven ability to set goals, deliver strategic outcomes and achieve KPIs with a sales focus to drive business growth.
  • Relevant experience in building and maintaining productive relationships with communities, partners and stakeholders.
  • Diverse and effective presentation and public speaking skills with the ability to engage, connect and influence people and convey clear messages, thoughts and ideas.
  • An understanding of our community and its needs from a banking perspective, and the ability to embrace and promote change in line with our vision, mission and values.
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, digital literacy and detailed report writing skills. Proficiency in the use of computer software programs including Microsoft Office, Zoom, Webex, G-Suite and other information technology platforms.

  • Effectively manage our sites, including our branch team of 9 staff and our agency partners in St Arnaud.
  • Work proactively and collaboratively with the Board of the Directors and the Executive Officer.
  • Encourage an environment of development, growth, positive feedback and recognition of our staff.
  • Drive business growth through setting and achieving effective sales targets and KPIs and establish consistent business performance.
  • Read and interpret financial reports to effectively manage the branch costs and income to achieve operating profit growth.  
  • Establish and nurture business networks to build the branch profile in your local community and create an effective referrer network.   
  • Listen and learn from formal and informal customer feedback to continue to build and improve our connection with our customers.  
  • Embed operational and risk management practices through regular and clear communication on requirements.
