About the role

Join the Better Big Bank in this exciting permanent role as we transform and be part of our cloud journey. You’ll get exposure to working with a range of new technologies and be part of a collaborative team. You’ll be responsible for ensuing our database platforms meet SLA’s for performance and availability whilst complying with bank standards for security and configuration. You will also support change, resolve incidents, deliver projects and be part of leading innovation.

You will get the opportunity to work with the newest technologies whilst having access to learning and development platforms plus the opportunity to get certified in cloud technologies. We offer a hybrid and flexible ways of working.

Examples of responsibilities: 

• Recommend the use of new database technologies, strategies, architecture and processes.
• Work with high availability solutions such as Windows Clustering and AlwaysOn.
• Designing and tuning large transactional databases.
• Partitioning large tables for archiving and performance.
• Solving performance bottlenecks by optimizing queries, schemas, hardware and application logic.
• Configuring SQL Server Transactional Replication.
• Developing stored procedures in TSQL.
• Managing backup and restore processes.
• Automating maintenance and monitoring tasks to ensure database health and performance.
• Migrating database servers and upgrading to the latest version of SQL Server.
• Capacity planning for stable and scalable database platforms.

About you

• Experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer with the ability to design complex database solutions. 
• In-depth technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server database management system and Windows operating system. 
• Experience with other database technologies – PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB desirable.
• Exposure to cloud technologies such as AWS is desirable.
• Experience working in Agile environments and a passion to share your agile ways of working to enable our team to deliver efficiently.
