Within our People & Culture division sit our Employee Relations team who provide specialist employee relations advice and support to all areas of the business. The team are responsible for ensuring business and strategic initiatives meet employment related legislative and regulatory obligations, as well as customer and community expectations. Managing our industrial arrangements to ensure they are commercial, compliant, and relevant. Creating and maintaining simple and contemporary policies and frameworks to ensure conduct, behaviours and conditions of employment are managed consistently, reflecting our vision, purpose, and value proposition.

We currently have a permanent opportunity for an Employee Relations Consultant to join the team in either a full or part time capacity. For the part time option this is flexibility to be either 3 or 4 full days per week, or reduced hours across 5 days, to better balance your time and life outside of work.

Reporting into the Senior Manager Employee Relations you will provide accurate and timely advice to people leaders and staff across a broad range of people related matters including the bank’s people policies, Enterprise Agreement, and NES entitlements. You’ll be accountable for high quality advice to educate and upskill leader’s knowledge, enabling them to manage and lead their teams more effectively. As an experienced ER professional you’ll bring a wealth of expertise in conducting conduct and compliance investigations. Being able to quickly build trust and credibility with a range of stakeholders, however not afraid to challenge the status quo or have difficult conversations. Ideally this role will be based out of one of our main office locations in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, or Bendigo for the days that you are in the office, and then other days you’ll be working from home to help better balance your life and work.


As the Employee Relations Consultant you will:

  • Provide accurate and practical advice and in relation to the application of the Bank’s ER policies, Bendigo & Adelaide Bank Enterprise Agreement, and employment related issues and concerns
  • Provide advice and support to people leaders in application of the Performance Counselling policy and the process for managing underperformance
  • Provide advice and support to people leaders in relation to allegations of misconduct, behavioural issues, interpersonal issues, and complaints to minimise employment related risk and disputation, including advice in relation to the Bank’s Disciplinary procedure and associated outcomes
  • Conduct workplace investigations and also provide support to Senior Consultants and Senior Managers within the Employee Relations team who are conducting workplace investigations
  • Regularly review and understand amendments to industrial instruments, the NES, the bank’s people policies, processes, programs, and systems


To be successful in the role, you'll have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or diploma in Human Resources, Employee Relations, Workplace Health & Safety, or related discipline, or be working towards a relevant qualification
  • Demonstrated high performance and operational experience in a similar role as ER Consultant or P&C Advisor/Consultant in a medium to large complex environment
  • Proven capabilities providing advice on people policies, processes, industrial instruments, and systems
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate complex enquiries and show leadership in ability to take ownership for the accuracy of the outcome
  • A solid understanding of employment legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements
  • Proven experience in advising people leaders and staff in relation to policies and procedures
  • Experience in utilising HR systems
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to confidently manage multiple competing priorities
  • Fantastic written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven capability influencing at all levels, able to quickly build and maintain effective relationships
