Consumer Banking Risk (CBR) is a centre of expertise for risk management across the whole of the Consumer Banking Division and provides strategy, risk appetite, governance, policy and framework support to the businesses within Consumer Banking to drive sound risk management practice. This includes providing guidance, assistance and support to relevant Board & Board/Management Committee members, Senior Management, internal and external stakeholders and providing leadership to enhance the further development of a strong risk culture across Consumer Banking.

About the role

The Operational Risk Manager role is responsible for a number of key matters in relation to implementing and managing the risk and compliance framework specifically within the Wealth business of the Consumer Banking Division.  This includes embedding the Operational Risk Management Framework by ensuring that all risk and compliance activities are undertaken in a timely and accurate manner and escalated where relevant. The is both a Permanent and 12 month fixed term opportunity. 

Key responsibilities include

  • Perform all activities required for embedding and management of the Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Report and escalate any breaches of risk and recommend areas for improvement
  • Ensure department registers are updated in relation to findings
  • Produce papers for and provide input into the Divisional Operational Risk Committee Meetings
  • Facilitate and/or participate in the review of Treatment Plans, Scenario Analysis, Root Cause Analysis and Control Validations.
  • Proactively promote a strong risk culture through education, support and awareness
  • Support the Senior Manager Risk & Compliance with any risk activity relevant for the Consumer Banking division.

About you

To be successful you will have

  • A background in Risk in Change/Transformation and/or Business Continuity Management is highly regarded
  • Tertiary qualifications in Risk Management or Business-related fields highly desirable.
  • Operational Risk experience in Banking and Financial Services Industry (Line 1 or 2 risk roles)
  • Strong understanding and practical working knowledge of Operational Risk Frameworks
  • Experience with operations, products, policies and procedures across wealth products i.e. superannuation, Management Investments, Marginal Lending or Insurance ideal but not mandatory
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with highly developed influencing skills
  • Strong collaboration and relationship management to deliver on organisational outcomes.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple and complex tasks and meet deadlines
  • Solid understanding of the wider industry including legislation and regulatory requirements
