Our goal to be Australia’s Bank of choice drives us to set the example of how banking should be: progressive, sustainable, shared, and trusted. Our Group Legal team partner closely with the business to ensure that we remain at the forefront in our industry by delivering expert legal advice.

A permanent opportunity has arisen in the Bank’s in-house Group Legal team for a senior level lawyer to provide legal expertise to the Group Treasury Function and the structured finance/syndication business units with Business Banking. This is a broad and diverse portfolio that will see you partner closely with stakeholders across the enterprise as a trusted advisor.

You will be responsible for providing advice in relation to banking and financial services in Australia, ideally you will have experience with core regulatory legislation such as the Banking Act 1959, Corporations Act 2001 and relevant Prudential Standards.

The Group Legal team’s culture is based on trust and mutual respect, each member working collegiately yet independently. Your strong previous experience in Commercial Law and in-depth knowledge of the retail banking space can be combined in a non-hierarchical environment where your input is genuinely valued.

We embrace flexibility and are happy to consider either full time or part time options, so let’s discuss what arrangements could work best to suit us and you. This role can be based in any of our office locations: Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, or Bendigo for the days that you are in the office, and then other days you’ll be working from home to help better balance your life and work.

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will:

  • Provide advice and support on legal matters relevant to the role
  • Identify, communicate, and manage legal risks
  • Advise on regulatory requirements and resolve high impact issues
  • Collaborate with your team, key stakeholders, and project and business resources, build capability, and foster a continuous learning culture

To be successful in the role, you will:

  • Be degree qualified and admitted to practice in Australia with PQE in financial services
  • Demonstrate strong previous experience in legal matters of treasury and structured finance
  • Be technically minded and display strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Be a self-starter who works well autonomously while supporting the wider team
  • Have highly developed relationship skills, able to build trust and confidence with senior executives and business partners
  • Demonstrate a strong level of business acumen
  • Have fantastic written and verbal communication skills

At Bendigo and Adelaide Bank we believe a diverse workforce supported by an inclusive culture is central to our success and we actively encourage applications from those who bring diversity of thought to our business. We support candidate requests for adjustment to accommodate an illness, injury, or disability to equitably participate in the selection process.

It is a condition of employment with the Bank that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless you have a medical contraindication or acute illness which prevents you from receiving the vaccine and you provide satisfactory evidence of this to the Bank.
