Recruitment Privacy Statement

We recognise, respect and value your privacy and are committed to safeguarding the privacy of our candidate’s personal information as set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).  In case of a conflict between this Recruitment Privacy Statement and applicable law, applicable law will govern.

By submitting your application to us which contains your personal information, you acknowledge and confirm the following:

  • you have read and understood this Recruitment Privacy Statement and our Group Privacy Policy;
  • your personal information will be collected, held, used and disclosed in accordance with this Recruitment Privacy Statement and our Group Privacy Policy; and
  • this Recruitment Privacy Statement only applies to the personal information of current and potential recruitment candidates.

1. Who is collecting your information?

This Recruitment Privacy Statement outlines how we collect personal information and how we use, hold and disclose the personal information you provide as part of your application for employment with us.  In this Recruitment Privacy Statement "we / our / us" means the Bendigo and Adelaide Group, including all or any of the following:

  • Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Limited, including its divisions Adelaide Bank, Bendigo Bank, Rural Bank and Australian Crop Forecasters,
  • Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Limited subsidiary companies, including Sandhurst Trustees, Leveraged Equities, National Mortgage Market Corporation, Profarmer, Ferocia, Up Money and Bendigo Superannuation,
  • Alliance Bank®,
  • Bendigo Bank agencies,
  • Bendigo Bank franchises (including Community Bank branches),
  • Community Enterprise Foundation™, and
  • University Community Bank.

2. Why we collect your personal information

We collect your personal information for the following purposes:

  • to consider your application in respect of a role for which you have applied,
  • to communicate with you in respect of the recruitment process,
  • to identify and evaluate candidates for potential employment, as well as for future roles that may become available,
  • to ensure compliance with legal requirements, including those relating to public health and workplace safety,
  • to conduct background checks, including, to the extent permitted by applicable law, and if you receive an offer from us, screening checks including background and checks to verify your work rights, and
  • to maintain records in relation to recruiting and hiring.

We will also use the personal information you provide to report on anonymised key metrics such as diversity outcomes to foster our diversity and inclusion programs and practices.

3. Sources of personal information

We collect personal information that you provide directly to us when you register on our careers site or submit a job application. 

We may also collect information from you at other stages during the application, interview and selection process, including at any competency, other test, or interview, and from third parties you have consented to such as your referees.

We may receive your personal information from a third party who recommends you as a candidate for a specific job opening or from our business more generally.

We may also collect information about you from sites. Sites include, without limitation, social media sites where you have created a public profile or otherwise provide permission so we can access your information on these sites.  The Group is a LinkedIn Premium Subscriber, and we may also collect information from LinkedIn.

4. Consequences of non-collection

If you do not provide all or some of the information we ask for, we may be unable to progress your candidacy further, meaning that your application may be declined.

5. When collection is required or authorised by law

We will collect your personal information to comply with Australian banking, financial services and credit laws, including ASIC's reference checking and information sharing protocol (if applicable to the role you applied for). If you are successful, your personal information is collected to comply with Australian employment, taxation and banking laws.

6. Personal information that we may collect for recruitment activities

The types of personal information we may collect includes:

  • name and contact details,
    educational background,
    employment background,
    job qualifications and eligibility, including your nationality, country of residence, and visa and immigration status,
    supporting documentation attached with your application such as CV, resume or academic transcripts or qualifications,
    employment references,
    compensation details, such as salary information and expectation,
    background checking information, such as verification of your education and professional background,
    information about your personality, competency, ability and suitability for a position, and
    certain types of sensitive personal information as described in Section 4 below.

7. Sensitive information

Sensitive information is a special category of personal information under the Privacy Act. It is information or opinion about you, including:

  • membership of a professional or trade association or membership of a trade union,
  • criminal record,
  • health information,
  • racial or ethnic origin,
  • political opinions,
  • membership of a political association, religious beliefs, or affiliations,
  • philosophical beliefs, or sexual preferences or practices.

As outlined in the Privacy Act, sensitive information can, in most cases, only be collected with your consent.

8. How do we store and protect personal information?

Your personal information will be stored in accordance with our Group Privacy Policy (see the section 'Our Privacy Policy' below) in a combination of secure computer storage facilities and we will take such steps as are reasonable in the circumstances to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, interference and loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Access to and correction of your personal information

In most cases you can gain access to and seek correction of your personal information.

If you have created a profile via our careers site, you are able to review and edit your personal information at any time by logging into your account and reviewing your profile.

You can access, correct or delete your personal information or close your account by sending an email to recruitment@bendigoadelaide.com.au. If you choose to keep your account open with the Group, we may retain personal information from your account as and where required by law.

9. Use and disclosure of your personal information

We treat your personal information as confidential and only disclose it to others where necessary.  We may disclose your personal information collected under this Recruitment Privacy Statement to:

  • our background screening provider that provides us with your background checking information (such as education and professional background verification), being First Advantage Corp, and
  • our visa and immigration provider who provides advice and support on Australian work eligibility and visa sponsorship, being Deloitte,
  • our assessment providers that assess your information to provide us with analysis about your personality, competency, ability and suitability for a position, which includes Pymetrics, Inc. and Chandler Macleod.

10. Overseas disclosures

In some cases, we may need to share some of your information with organisations outside Australia. For example, when we use service providers located overseas to perform a function on our behalf.

We may share your information with overseas organisations that are located in the US.

When we share your information with organisations overseas we ensure appropriate data handling and security measures are in place.

11. Social Media Tools

Our recruitment process allows you to provide us with personal information you have on third-party websites (such as LinkedIn). If you choose to incorporate your personal information from these third-party websites, it will be used in accordance with this Recruitment Privacy Statement.

  • how you can complain about a breach of the privacy laws by us and how we will deal with a complaint.
