Our People and Culture division’s purpose is ‘Together we do great things every day to enrich the employee experience.’ Within People and Culture, the People Operations team play a critical role in executing the operational people functions for the group. Delivering a positive and consistent employee experience by ensuring our people have the right tools, systems, and processes in place.

 

We have a unique opportunity to join the division as Head of People Operations. Reporting to the Chief People Officer you’ll strategically and operationally lead the People Operations team. You’ll be responsible for a large team that sit across People Advisory, People Processing, Payroll Operations, Pay Governance, and People Operations Delivery. You’ll also be the Data Custodian for all People and Culture data, the Business System Owner for our core HRIS, Process Manager for all operational processes, and you’ll own the Payroll Business Continuity Plan. A key element of the role is to ensure overall compliance with appropriate governance frameworks.

 

You’ll bring to the role your deep knowledge and experience in people operations, ideally with a robust background in payroll including payroll remediation, improving risk practices, uplifting governance, and an ongoing drive for continuous improvement. Previous experience in banking or financial services is not essential (although this would be a bonus!), instead your superb collaborative and communication skills are, you’ll effortlessly interact with and influence all levels up to Board and the Executive team.

 

You’ll be part of an engaged and supportive People and Culture senior leadership team that are incredibly passionate and work collaboratively to enrich our employee’s experience. This is a key leadership position within the engine room of people operations where you’ll have genuine opportunity to do impactful work and be valued for your strategic and operational contributions.

 

This role can be based in either Melbourne or Bendigo. We offer flexible work options that put our people first, and a hybrid model with a minimum requirement of 40% of your time per week in the office, increasing to 60% as of July 2025.

 

 

What you’ll bring to the role

 

  • A relevant tertiary and preferably post graduate qualifications in Human Resources or Commerce including professional accreditation in areas such as Finance, Operational Risk, Human Resources, or Data Analytics
  • Demonstrated previous experience in a similar role leading a business unit or function including financial responsibility
  • Possess extensive knowledge in a variety of disciplines such as payroll, pay governance, analytics, compliance, finance, project management, delivery, generalist human resources
  • Significant experience in HR Operations with knowledge of key functions within a regulated industry
  • Strategic leadership to motivate and engage others to follow your compelling organisational vision
  • Analytical and systems thinking having worked in a data rich environment using insights to drive decisions and strategies
  • Demonstrated expert capabilities in building relationships and influencing
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
