Creating a safe and inclusive environment for our LGBTIQ+ employees, customers and community members

At BEN, there's a place for everyone. We believe we operate at our best with a diverse workforce.

Embracing the diversity of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ+) community is important to us. We are proud to welcome everyone to our bank, and we are dedicated to creating an inclusive, safe space for all our employees, customers and community members, no matter who we love, how we dress, and who we are.

BEN Pride

BEN Pride is the Bank's LGBTIQ+ employee network, made up of members from across our business, including people who identify as LGBTIQ+ as well as proud allies of the LGBTIQ+ community. The purpose of BEN Pride is to create a safe, inclusive and empowering environment for our LGBTIQ+ people, customers, partners and community.

Since launching, the BEN Pride Committee (previously known as Kaleidoscope) has delivered impact across multiple areas including:

  • Renewed energy & leadership
  • Improved visibility
  • Increased network size and engagement
  • Celebrated days of significance

Our vision is to be a Rainbow employer of choice who values and includes all members of the LGBTIQ+ community. We are a champion of LGBTIQ+ support across regional and rural Australia, creating a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

Bendigo Pride Festival – Rainbow Sponsors

First held in 2019, the Bendigo Pride Festival has grown every year, highlighting the diversity of the Greater Bendigo region by uniting different backgrounds and cultures across the three-week arts and culture festival. Bendigo and Adelaide Bank have been a proud platinum sponsor of the festival since 2020, and in 2023 became the event ‘Rainbow Sponsor.

We know from the AWEI[1] there is less visibility of LGBTIQ+ inclusion within regional Australia – and that regional staff not only feel LGBTIQ+ initiatives are too city-centric, but do not have exposure to as many allies, can experience higher levels of harassment and feel less positive about the organisation being inclusive. So, our sponsorship is a way to show our support to our regional employees and customers.
