“It begins at Bendigo Bank”

We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.

It starts here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.

About the opportunity

At Bendigo Bank, we are committed to being Australia's bank of choice, and our engineering culture is central to that mission. We believe in empowering our teams to deliver exceptional and secure products for our customers. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Engineering Manager to lead the teams that build our security foundations and enable our entire engineering community to innovate securely and at scale.

The Engineering Manager for Security Enablement and Engineering is a key leadership role responsible for building and leading high-performing teams that sit at the heart of our security posture.

In this role you’ll get to…

  • Lead, mentor, and grow multiple teams of security and software engineers, while hiring top talent and fostering a great team culture.
  • Oversee the design and operation of key security platforms, such as threat detection, identity management, and cloud security, ensuring they are reliable and scalable.
  • Champion a "shift-left" security approach by providing developers with secure-by-default tools and automated security feedback in their workflows.
  • Define the technical roadmap, make key architectural decisions, and manage the budget and vendor relationships for your teams' platforms.

What you’ll bring to the role

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or Technical Lead, with an excellent track record of leading, mentoring, and growing engineering teams.
  • A technical background in software engineering, with hands-on experience in a modern tech stack.
  • Broad knowledge across multiple security domains (e.g., cloud security, application security, CI/CD security, identity management, threat detection).
  • Demonstrable experience implementing DevSecOps or "shift-left" security programs and driving cultural change.
  • Experience working within a highly regulated environment, preferably Australian financial services (with knowledge of APRA standards).
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and align teams and leaders across the organisation.
  • A pragmatic and collaborative approach to security, with a focus on enabling business outcomes.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and managing technical roadmaps and backlogs.

We believe a diverse workforce supported by an inclusive culture is central to our success and we actively encourage applications from those who bring diversity of thought to our business. We support candidate requests for adjustment to accommodate an illness, injury, or disability to equitably participate in the selection process.

Still in two minds?

Research suggests 60% of women and underrepresented groups might stop here, even after getting as far as drafting an application. We believe that diversity makes every team stronger, so even if you don’t tick every box we still want to see your application!
