We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.

It starts here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.

At Bendigo Bank, we're all about helping people and communities thrive. We're a big bank, but we've never lost our focus on the people we serve. We’re driven by our purpose of feeding into the prosperity of our customers and communities, not off them.

Our people are at the heart of our Bank, and we care about them deeply. The People and Culture division delivers meaningful work in support of our group strategy, with a focus on enriching the employee experience and helping our people to thrive at the Bank. Within the People and Culture division our Payroll Governance team play a critical role to proactively ensure that our employees are being paid correctly across all industrial agreements and awards.

This is your chance to make your mark. We are seeking a permanent full-time Payroll Compliance and Quality Assurance Manager to join our established payroll governance function. Reporting into the Senior Manager, Payroll Governance, you’ll lead a small team to contribute to the Bank’s strategic objective to demonstrate compliance across pay-related systems and processes with Commonwealth, State and Territory workplace laws, including legislation and industrial instruments.

You’ll contribute to ensuring our most valuable asset – our people – are paid correctly and that our payroll processes are robust, compliant, and efficient. You and your team will be responsible for interpreting various employment agreements, navigating the complexities of a large-scale payroll system, and driving a culture of continuous improvement and quality. Additionally you’ll be accountable for establishing and maintaining a robust payroll compliance and governance framework, leading assurance activities, and partnering with senior stakeholders to identify, mitigate and prevent pay-related risks

To be successful in this role, you will be a seasoned payroll compliance professional with a keen eye for detail. Join a collaborative and supportive team with a diverse set of skills that like to share their ideas and knowledge to workshop solutions. Be involved in impactful work that makes a difference and ensures our employees are paid correctly.

This role can be based in Adelaide, Bendigo, Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney. We offer flexible work options that put our people first, working in a hybrid model with a minimum local Head Office attendance requirement determined by your Leader, to find a rhythm that works best for you and your team. We believe that coming into the office some of the time is the best way to learn, stay connected and collaborate effectively, especially for key activities like team days, 1:1s, and town halls.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Significant previous experience in a senior payroll or project position as a people leader with either direct reports or indirectly managing resources
  • Demonstrated experience working with complex, large-scale payrolls
  • Expertise in payroll compliance, quality assurance, and risk mitigation
  • Significant technical expertise in payroll data analytics with the ability to interpret and present content and findings
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply various employment agreements (e.g., Enterprise Agreements, Modern Awards)
  • A strong understanding of the interaction between Human Resources systems, policies, and practice in a corporate and customer service operating environment
  • Understanding of and experience in developing and implementing governance, frameworks and processes to support and enable industrial compliance
  • Hands-on experience with SAP payroll systems, SuccessFactors, and Time and Attendance platforms is essential
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively to find solutions
  • Intermediate to advanced abilities with the MS Office suite
