“It begins at Bendigo Bank”

We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.

The Security Innovation, Engineering and COE Lead/Technical Product Owner is a key role responsible for the strategic direction and advancement of the bank's security technology landscape. This role involves leading initiatives and guiding experts in designing, building, and enhancing the core security infrastructure that protects our assets, data, and customers.

You will be at the forefront of identifying, evaluating, and implementing next-generation security solutions. Furthermore, you will be instrumental in operating a Security Centre of Excellence (COE), providing expert guidance, reusable patterns, and shared services to empower teams across the bank to build and operate securely. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of cybersecurity at a leading Australian financial institution.

It starts here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.

About the opportunity

At Bendigo Bank, we are committed to being Australia's bank of choice. Our reputation is built on trust, and in the digital age, that trust is underpinned by world-class security. We are looking for a visionary leader to drive our security innovation and engineering capabilities, ensuring we not only defend against today's threats but are prepared for tomorrow's.

In this role you’ll get to…

  • Shape our security technology future by developing a strategic roadmap, exploring innovative technologies like AI and Zero Trust, and managing the innovation pipeline from concept to reality.
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of our core enterprise security platforms, ensuring they are robust and scalable while embedding a secure-by-design approach into all development.
  • Lead our Security Center of Excellence by setting best practices, providing expert advice on major projects, and building shared security services for the whole organization to use.
  • Mentor and develop a team of security experts, manage key relationships with vendors and industry partners, and report on our security posture and innovation efforts to senior leadership.

What you’ll bring to the role

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Extensive experience in a senior security role, with a proven track record in security architecture, engineering, and innovation.
  • Deep technical expertise across multiple security domains such as cloud security (AWS/Azure/GCP), identity and access management (IAM), network security, DevSecOps, and data protection.
  • Demonstrable experience within the Australian banking or financial services sector, with a strong understanding of the regulatory environment (e.g., APRA CPS 234, PCI DSS).
  • Experience in contributing to or running a technical Centre of Excellence.
  • A strategic and forward-thinking mindset, with the ability to anticipate future threats and technology trends.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to inspire and guide technical specialists.
  • Experience managing complex projects and vendor relationships.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CCSP, TOGAF) are highly desirable.
